Originally called Mark Belt, this city located mostly within Brazoria County was eventually renamed in 1892. Residents drew inspiration from the pear trees that were abundant in the area, and thus Mark Belt became Pearland. The city of Pearland is located approximately 37 miles north of Angleton and enjoys close proximity to Houston. While most of Pearland’s territories are well within the limits of the Brazoria County, some parts of the city extend to the counties of Fort Bend and Harris.

The temple is one of three Hindu temples built in the country since the 1970s, when the number of Hindu immigrants in the United States reached its peak.
