Despite this, La Porte managed to turn things around and it was eventually developed into a resort town frequented by affluent Houstonians.

The Sylvan Beach of today is much more tranquil and is now more well-known for the beach itself as well as the recently renovated pavilion.
For more thrill and excitement, why not spend the night aboard the Battleship Texas? USS Texas is the last remaining dreadnought battleship that has seen action in both World Wars. This war relic is located at La Porte’s Independence Parkway.
