Retail and Recreation Coming Soon

If you live in the League City area, you’ve undoubtedly passed what looks like a giant cabin under construction. That giant cabin is Cabela’s, a Nebraska-based retailer of hunting, fishing and outdoor gear. Cabela’s has looked near completion for the past few months, and outdoor enthusiasts have been eager awaiting it’s grand opening. Well, that wait is coming to and end – March 17th marks the grand opening!

This is Cabela’s first Houston-area store, and sixth store in Texas. There are additional locations in Fort Worth, Buda, Allen, Waco and Lubbock.

Galveston has some exciting news on the recreational front. Schlitterbahn Water Park and Resorts announced on Feb. 4 that it will open one of the world’s tallest “water coasters”, called MASSIV, at its park in Galveston. The record-breaking water coaster will be joining the park’s other record-breaking attractions, including the longest river ride, longest torrent (action) river ride, and the tallest waterslide. Not only will MASSIV be the tallest water coaster in the world, but it will also have a number of other innovations:

• A translucent section that will make riders visible from the river below.
• Four uphill sections, with six blaster jets.
• A triple-drop ending into a landing pool – a never-done-before thrilling finale to the ride.

The attraction is slated to be open in time for the park’s 10-year anniversary this summer –  just in time to beat the Texas heat!
